Let’s get straight to the point. You must see yourself as a Brand. You must value your brand. Your highest priority is to market yourself, your abilities, and your knowledge as you would any product or service. Your brand is your reputation and it is perceived by those you have relationships with your colleagues, customers, clients, family and community. I can’t emphasize it enough that your most important product is YOURSELF! Those who ignore this important truth will pay a high price both financially and professionally regardless of the profession.
Remember that your success is not predicated on who you know, but who knows you and what they believe about you. I realize that there is a high priority on image. However, image is not everything, but your reputation and integrity is.
In a world with advancing technology of camera phones, social media and omnipresent surveillance like lightning it can shed light on a lie, a life scandal and illuminate exposure of behavioral misconduct that ultimately can destroy careers, companies, relationships and most of all your reputation. It is important to always make a credible response when addressing issues. There is a far greater price to pay when trying to correct inappropriate behavior.
For me lying definitely is not tolerated in my world. In my professional opinion I believe when someone lies it can destroy an entire institution and industry because of the deceptive and fraudulent behavior of an individual. The unfolding drama demonstrated when searching for the truth in the midst of this epidemic of lies and deceit within the business world is just simply betrayal of public trust. I have to be honest my rationale is if someone lies to me once, they will lie again. With that being said I have perceived their brand and integrity is at the stage that is beyond repair.
The greatest thing to do for yourself is to do a daily measure of your level of integrity in the areas of your beliefs, conduct, habits and treatment of others. Give yourself a reality check and ask is my personal brand in tact or is in jeopardy due to my choices? Have I put my own ambitions, earning power and success at risk? I encourage you today to change behaviors, habits and beliefs that are self-destructive, dishonest and illegal.
